Tuffdisc Pumps

Tuffdisc Pump

Engineered for Purity. Built for Performance

When your process demands gentle handling, absolute hygiene, and uncompromising reliability, ordinary pumps simply won't do.The TUFFDISC ® Sanitary Design Disc Pump brings disc pump technology to food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries — combining the shear-sensitive, low-pulsation transfer that disc pumps are known for with sanitary construction built to meet the strictest hygiene standards.

Whether you're moving delicate yogurt cultures, viscous fruit concentrates, shear-sensitive biological fluids, or high-purity pharmaceutical suspensions, TUFFDISC® delivers consistent, contamination-free performance — batch after batch, shift after shift.

How It Works

Unlike conventional centrifugal or positive displacement pumps that rely on close tolerances, blades, or lobes to move fluid, the TUFFDISC® pump uses a set of rotating discs to create a boundary layer effect. Fluid is dragged along by viscous drag and centrifugal force between the discs, rather than being mechanically sheared or squeezed. The result is a pumping action that is inherently gentle on the product, yet powerful enough to handle high viscosities, fragile solids, and entrained air — all without the wear, clogging, or product degradation common to conventional designs.

Key Features

  • Open, Bladeless Disc Design — No impeller vanes, cutting edges, or close clearances that can damage product or trap contaminants.
  • Sanitary 3-A / CIP-Compliant Construction — Crevice-free wetted surfaces, sanitary fittings, and smooth internal geometry designed for effective Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Sterilize-in-Place (SIP) protocols.
  • Premium Stainless-Steel Build — Constructed from SS 316L/316 wetted parts with mirror or matte sanitary finish options (up to Ra ≤0.4 µm on product-contact surfaces).
  • Improves Operator Safety — Eliminates manual tilting and lifting of heavy drums, reducing spill and injury risk.
  • Non-Clog, Large Free Passage — Handles soft solids, fruit pieces, curds, and fibrous material without blockage.
  • Low Shear, Low Pulsation Flow — Preserves product integrity — critical for live cultures, proteins, emulsions, and shear-sensitive APIs.
  • Wide Viscosity Range — Efficiently handles fluids from water-thin to highly viscous pastes within the same pump body.
  • Minimal Maintenance Design — Fewer wear parts than lobe or gear pumps means lower spare-part costs and longer service intervals.
  • Seal Options to Suit the Application — Single/double mechanical seals, flushed seals, or aseptic seal arrangements available.

Challenge with Conventional Pumps The TUFFDISC Advantage
Product damage from shear (broken curds, sheared cultures, denatured proteins) Gentle disc-drag action preserves product structure and viability.
Frequent clogging with solids or fibrous material Open flow path handles particulates without jamming.
High maintenance due to close-tolerance wear
parts
Non-contact disc design dramatically reduces wear.
Foaming and air-handling issues Naturally handles entrained air without vapor lock.
Poor hygiene due to crevices and dead zones Fully sanitary geometry supports validated CIP/SIP cycles.
Pulsating flow affecting downstream processes Smooth, near-pulsation-free discharge for consistent dosing and filling.
